Three London 1 Mile Races To Try

The 1 miler is a distance that is suitable for everyone, regardless of ability and fitness level. It's my favourite short distance to run because the way you train is different to that of the longer distances and you have to be switched on from the moment you start.

Here are three major 1 mile races you should consider in 2016:

Sports Relief: March 2016
Entry Fee: £11

Feeling inspired by Greg James' challenge of completing 5 triathlons in 5 days? Sports Relief is holding races across the country. Whether you want to try out running, swimming or cycling, there's something for everyone.

Entry: Free. Registration opens 26 February. Follow them on Twitter to keep updated.

I have participated in this event since it started two years ago. Last year, the number of participants was noticeably far more than the year before. Generally, it was a well-organised event, the medal design was brilliant and it was a good location. It was a flat route and the bends in the road may make it harder to achieve a PB. The only downside was the way in which baggage collection was handled. I have been told that this issue has been rectified and won't happen this year.

Westminster Mile: May 2016
Entry: £11. Discount if you are a Westminster resident.

Set in the location of the Pall Mall and Buckingham Palace, this is a good 1 miler to try if you want to be in central London, want a flat route and achieve a PB. The race village is usually located in the park, and so makes for a nice family day trip as there are plenty of child-friendly activities around.

Have you run a 1 mile race before? What did you think of it?
